My passion and belief in the power of recovery comes from a lived experience of addiction. A heavy drinker from an early age my life revolved around alcohol and drugs as that was how I dealt with my emotions. In the end this life became more than a little chaotic and I came to a place were I admitted what I was and that I could not continue to live in that way.
I reached out and was lucky enough to get into treatment. My rehab was Abbington House where I completed treatment in February 2025. At Abbington House, with the help of those who work there I started to understand the illness of addiction and the tools I learnt there set me up on the path of recovery and happiness.
I enjoyed the place so much I asked to volunteer and Abbington House welcomed me back to help others. By doing so I quickly realised that this is what I wanted to do with my life and I dedicated myself to a Support Worker role I was lucky to be offered.
I am now enrolled into a Level 4 BACP accredited counselling course with the aim of becoming a counsellor working with people suffering from the pain and horror of addiction.
