Our Centre

Abbington House is a small residential centre in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

Calm, contained and personal, it gives people space to step away from everyday pressure and begin treatment somewhere steady.

This page gives you a sense of the house, the setting, the people here and what it feels like when you arrive.

A Calm, Personal Setting

Abbington House is a smaller residential setting where care  feels personal and responsive.

Staff are able to get to know each person properly, notice changes early and support them through the day-to-day rhythm of treatment.

For many people, being away from everyday triggers in a place that feels safe and steady can make it easier to settle, talk honestly and begin the work of recovery.

Inside the Centre

The house is arranged to support everyday living during treatment. Bedrooms offer privacy and personal space, while shared areas give people room to sit, talk, rest and spend time between therapy sessions.

The environment is kept calm and consistent. For people arriving after stress, crisis or heavy substance use, small details matter: a clean room, a quiet space, a warm meal, and people who understand what the first few days can feel like.

Clinical Support & Safety

Abbington House provides structured support throughout the residential stay.

Medical oversight is available on site, with care planned around each person’s needs. Where detox is required, this is arranged and medically supervised as part of treatment.

Support is available during the day and night, so people aren’t left to manage the early stages of treatment alone.

Meals and Nutrition

Food is an important part of daily life at Abbington House. Alcohol and drug use can affect sleep, appetite, routine and physical health, so regular meals can help people begin to feel more settled.

Meals are prepared on site by Chef Marion and shared in the communal dining space. Food is fresh, balanced and part of the rhythm of the day.

Dietary needs and preferences are discussed before admission wherever possible, and mealtimes are kept calm and unhurried.

Abbington Community – Staying Connected in Recovery

Abbington House is not only the place where treatment begins. For many people, connection after treatment is an important part of recovery.

Our community events take place after treatment and are designed to help people stay connected, supported and part of something ongoing in recovery.

Privacy is always respected. Photos from community events are only shared where people have given consent.
