Care Quality, Regulation and Improvement
We believe safe care is built on transparency, regulation and willingness to learn. This page explains how Abbington House is regulated, how we respond to feedback, and continue improving care for people we support.
Abbington House is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and we welcome the role of inspection and external auditing in maintaining safe and effective care.
A previous CQC inspection highlighted both the strengths of the care we provide and areas where our systems and processes needed improvement. We took this feedback seriously and used it as an opportunity to reflect, strengthen our governance and improve how we work.
The inspection recognised positive aspects of our service, including:
- The commitment and compassion shown by our staff
- The quality of therapeutic relationships
- A recovery-focused approach to care
- A supportive environment for people in treatment.
At the same time, it identified areas that needed greater clarity and oversight. Since that inspection, we have made a number of changes to strengthen the service, including:
- Improving clinical governance and leadership oversight
- Strengthening safeguarding and risk management processes
- Clarifying policies, documentation and accountability
- Investing further in staff training, supervision and support.
- Improvements to our medical facilities
We are due to undergo our next Care Quality Commission inspection in 2026, which we see as part of our ongoing commitment to accountability, learning and improvement.
The safety and wellbeing of the people we support is central to everything we do. We recognise that residential addiction treatment carries responsibility and complexity, and we take this seriously. Our systems are designed to identify risk early, respond appropriately and support people with dignity and respect.
We believe that good care is not about claiming perfection, but about being open and willing to improve. We remain committed to providing safe, compassionate and clinically responsible treatment, and to learning continuously from feedback.
If you would like to discuss our approach to quality, regulation or any aspect of how we work, we are always open to those conversations.
Choosing treatment is a significant step. We believe transparency and honesty are part of building trust, and we are committed to continuing to learn, improve and provide care responsibly.
