My Recovery Story
Despite attending many treatment centres over the past 15 years and experiencing periods of sobriety, I struggled to make lasting changes—until I found the support, structure, and healing environment I needed at Abbington House.
Since completing treatment, I have remained clean and continued to work on myself daily through ongoing therapy and active participation in a 12-step fellowship. The transformation I experienced here has been life-changing, and returning first as a volunteer and now as a part-time staff member feels like a dream come true. It’s a privilege to give back to the place that helped me rebuild my life.
My personal journey through recovery has given me deep empathy and lived experience that I now use to support others on their path to a life free from substances. I approach every client with compassion, understanding, and the belief that recovery is possible for anyone.
In addition to my support role, I bring over 20 years of experience as a plumbing and heating engineer, which I now use to assist the maintenance team at Abbington House. I’ve also previously volunteered in drug and alcohol services, worked in supported housing, and provided hands-on support to individuals in early recovery.
This is a new chapter for me—a complete career change, but one that feels aligned with my purpose. Abbington House isn’t just where I found recovery; it’s where I’ve found a community, a calling, and a future.
