Claire Winterbourne

Short Biography

I have been practising yoga for over 23 years now, teaching and sharing it for 8.  I found yoga to be invaluable at a time when my own life felt unmanageable, chaotic, and often scary.  Finding a certain steadiness within this, even if only for a fleeting moment, gives hope that there can be another way.  Practices begin on the mat, but learning to connect with the breath and to observe the body and mind extends beyond that into life.  Sharing this as a way of life is really important to me as a yoga teacher.  It reaches beyond what we do on the mat, enriching not only our own lives but also affecting everyone we meet on the way.

You will find me at Abbington House each week, where I offer a safe space for residents to come together and to begin to explore how this wonderful practice may support them in their recovery; both now and hopefully beyond their visit to the clinic.

I welcome everyone to join in, regardless of how they are feeling on any given day, and not worrying if they have no previous experience or plenty.  Taking into account the individual needs of everyone within the group is what makes my classes special, and I will guide a practice that will benefit, and is appropriate for, anyone who comes.
