Food & Nutrition

Home/Food & Nutrition
Recovery isn’t just about therapy, rebuilding physical health and restoring balance is our core philosophy at Abbington House. Every meal is prepared by our Head Chef, Marion, who combines professional skill with a passion for creating nourishing, comforting dishes. Her menus are designed to support detox, restore energy, and give clients the strength they need to focus fully on recovery.

Why Nutrition Matters in Recovery

Addiction can take a serious toll on the body. Nutritional deficiencies, low energy and disrupted sleep are common in early recovery, making it harder to heal and engage in therapy. A balanced diet provides the foundation for both physical repair and mental clarity.

Marion works closely with our clinical team to ensure that every dish supports the recovery process, from stabilising blood sugar during detox to providing balanced meals that restore energy and promote emotional stability. Clients often say that Marion’s cooking helps them feel “at home” even while they are undergoing intensive treatment.

As Marion explains: “Every meal I prepare is about more than nutrition. I want to show people they are cared for.”

Our Approach to Food at Abbington House

As part of our holistic approach to treatment we acknowledge the important role that good nutrition plays in addiction recovery. Our onsite chefs create nourishing, balanced meals to support our clients’ physical and mental wellbeing, helping them feel rejuvenated throughout their stay.

Fresh, Balanced Menus

Every day, Marion creates menus using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Meals are varied, colourful and carefully balanced to provide the right mix of protein, carbohydrates and essential nutrients. This ensures clients regain physical strength and feel energised throughout their stay.

Supporting Detox & Recovery

Nutrition plays a vital role during detox. Marion’s dishes are designed to stabilise blood sugar, support hydration, and replenish vitamins and minerals often depleted through alcohol or drug use. These choices help ease the physical challenges of early recovery and provide comfort when it’s needed most.

Comfort and Familiarity

Alongside nutrient-dense dishes, clients are offered familiar, comforting meals that bring a sense of reassurance. Simple, well-loved favourites remind people of home, helping to reduce anxiety and support emotional balance during treatment.

Flexibility and Preferences

Every client’s needs are different. Marion and the kitchen team adapt meals to meet dietary requirements, whether vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or allergy-specific. This flexibility ensures that everyone at Abbington House can eat well and feel supported in their recovery.
