The Mayor of Stevenage, Councillor Nazmin Chowdhury, visited Abbington House on 7 May 2026 to meet the team, tour the centre, and hear about how Abbington House supports people affected by addiction across Hertfordshire.
This week we welcomed the Mayor of Stevenage, Councillor Nazmin Chowdhury, to Abbington House. She spent time with the team over lunch, toured the centre and heard about the work we do with people affected by drug and alcohol addiction in Hertfordshire and across the UK.
The Mayor’s theme for her mayoral year is “Growing Together: Building a Kinder Tomorrow”. That message sits very closely with what we try to do here every day. Addiction affects individuals and families across Stevenage and the wider county, and having the Mayor take the time to understand how residential treatment works means a great deal to the team.

One of the Mayor’s supported charities for the year, Young Carers’ Crew, works with young people aged 8 to 18 who care for family members affected by disability, illness or substance dependency. That connection to the families we work with made the visit feel particularly important.

We're grateful for the Mayor's time and her genuine interest in what happens here. Visits like this help raise awareness of residential treatment as a real and available option for people in Hertfordshire who are struggling with addiction.
