Cost is one of the first questions people ask, and one of the hardest to get a clear answer to. This page breaks down typical rehab costs, what is included at Abbington House, and what to compare before making a decision.

Whether you are asking for yourself or for someone you love, it is a fair question. You should be able to understand what treatment may cost, what is included, and what you are paying for before making any decision.
Private rehab pricing is not always presented in a consistent way. Some centres publish ranges. Others give a figure only after an enquiry. Some include detox within residential treatment, while others charge for it separately. Some services are fully residential, while others provide daytime treatment with accommodation arranged separately. That lack of standardisation can make comparison difficult when you are already trying to make a hard decision.
This page explains what rehab costs in the UK, what the fee covers at Abbington House, and what to look out for when comparing providers.
The Different Kinds of Rehab, and What They Cost
There is no single price for rehab, because there is no single kind of rehab. What you pay depends mostly on whether treatment is publicly funded or private, and whether you stay somewhere for treatment or attend while living at home.
NHS and Community Treatment
NHS and community treatment is free, with the cost of travel the only barrier. Local drug and alcohol services can provide structured support, recovery help and, in rare cases, access to detox pathways. Access can involve waiting, and availability varies by area, but if cost is a barrier this is worth exploring first.
Private Outpatient
Private outpatient usually means attending sessions while continuing to live at home. This is often charged per session, commonly in the region of £50 to £150 each, depending on the therapist, service and level of support. While it costs less, it may not suit those who need detox or time away from home.
Private Residential Rehab
Private residential rehab means staying in the treatment setting itself, with accommodation, meals, therapy, daily structure and support provided as part of the same programme. In a fully residential setting, the person is not simply attending daytime treatment while staying elsewhere.
In the UK, a 28-day private residential stay commonly costs between £8,000 and £16,000.
For residential treatment, where someone falls within that range usually depends on their clinical situation, the recommended length of stay, whether medical detox is required, the intensity of therapy, accommodation, staffing, and what aftercare and family support are included.
What Detox Costs on Its Own
Some people need medical detox as part of treatment. Others do not. Detox-only stays are usually shorter than residential rehab, often around 7 to 10 days. In the UK, they commonly cost between £3,000 and £6,000, depending on the substance, medical complexity and the level of support needed.
At Abbington House, detox is included within the cost of residential treatment where it is clinically required.
What Residential Rehab Costs at Abbington House
A 28-day residential stay at Abbington House currently costs in the region of £14,000. The fee is agreed before admission, so the cost is clear from the outset.
The fee is the same regardless of the substance being treated. Clinical needs affect the care plan, particularly whether detox is needed and how long it lasts, but they do not change the agreed fee once someone has been accepted for treatment.
Shorter stays, often around 14 days, may be available at a lower overall cost where a shorter detox, stabilisation or residential stay is clinically appropriate.
Because the fee is fixed, you are not quoted one figure and then charged more as treatment goes on.
What the Fee Includes
At Abbington House, the fee covers the full stay, with the core parts of treatment included rather than added later.
- Private en-suite accommodation for the duration of the stay
- All meals
- Medical detox, where clinically required
- Individual and group therapy
- Support where mental health difficulties sit alongside addiction
- Complementary therapies, including art therapy, sound therapy and Reiki
- Activities and access to local facilities where appropriate
- A 16-week family support process
- Relapse prevention and recovery planning
- One year of aftercare following completion
- Lifetime access to the Abbington Community
Detox, family support and aftercare are part of the fee. They are not separate add-ons.
Comparing Rehab Costs Honestly
When comparing rehab costs, it helps to look beyond the headline figure, because not every centre includes the same things in the main fee.
Some providers charge separately for detox, family support or aftercare. Some services describe themselves as residential, but operate more like quasi-residential treatment, where therapy takes place during the day and accommodation is arranged separately or off site.
Abbington House is fully residential. Treatment, accommodation, meals, therapeutic support and day-to-day care are all provided as part of the same residential setting.
A low headline price is not always the lower overall cost once the additions are counted, or once you understand what is and is not included in the residential fee.
It is also worth being honest that residential rehab is not right for everyone. For some people, less intensive support is enough, and we will say so. Residential treatment may be worth the cost when stopping at home has not held, when withdrawal may need medical support, or when home is part of what keeps the drinking or drug use going.
